2009-2011

The beginning was pretty basic.
With one kid off to college and the other too old to go around trick or treating, I decided to have some fun of my own. I converted our garage into a simple one room torture chamber. Just a baby zombie and a severed arm (my arm) sitting on the candy table.
I had no idea what I had started. By year three, we had a whole cast of actors. We added a chainsaw, two way mirrors and our now infamous mannequin room. The lines got so long that after a while the police would show up to see what was happening. Unfortunately so did the HOA.
So in 2012, it was time to move

2012
In 2012 we moved to the downtown area and set up in an empty garage across from the Police station. It wasn’t too much bigger than our previous location, but it got us away from the neighborhood HOA people.
Only now, we had to deal with the Fire Marshal….
We still weren’t charging any admissions. All we asked was that people donated a dollar to help support the booster club. Fridays were slow because of football, but we made up for it on Saturdays. The house was rented that year, so we were on the move again.
Only 2013 was gonna be the start of a great friendship and the actual beginning of The Crypt Haunted House…..

2013
Up to this point, I hadn’t even thought about making money off from my haunted houses. It was more fun and a lot more enjoyable just scaring people and providing some much needed entertainment in Princeton. But with a new location and a new partner; (Jimmy Copp) we set off down the road of what is called the Haunted House world of Entertainment. We leased an abandon building in downtown Princeton and designed our haunted house. It was 4500 sqft with a sixteen foot high pitched ceiling. We had all the electricity we needed, but no water and no restrooms. We layed out the ¾ partical board walls using 2x4 s as our top and bottom plates. And after 45 days of hard work and nearly $20 thousand dollars later, we were ready. But the name we chose, “Chambers of Fears” had already been taken and we were unable to use it on our web site. We had all the walls in place, actors were ready to go but we couldn’t come up with a name…
The Crypt Haunted House
After a lot of web searching, we had our name…
Our first season was a great success if you measure success by the reaction of the people who come through your haunt and leave satisfied. Thousands of customers came and went without a single complaint. We had done it. We were officially in the haunted house entertainment business. Only there was one problem. We barely broke even with all the expenses and we were told that we were not going to be able to use the building the following year. Which meant that in 2014, we were going to have to move again!
It has been told to me by several people in the Haunted House business that it takes any where from 7-10yrs before you start seeing a profit and it takes 4-5yrs to build up a following big enough to sustain a HH year after year. Being that this was our first actual season, it looked like we were in for a long haul.
But first to find a new location… and that’s just what Becky Copp did. God bless that woman.

2014
With our new location and a whole acre to build on, we set to work building The Crypt Haunted House.
At times we will have up to sixty or more actors working at the Crypt. We excepted anyone who wanted to volunteer, as long as they acted professionally. Our goal was to create an old style of haunted house. Todays haunted houses have become so electronic and animated that they loose the real interactions of a character and the customer. Its not just about how expensive the scares are or how movie set quality the rooms look. People want to be scared…
We strive to keep our customers off balance and not know when and where the scare will come from. We use the dark as much as possible to allow the customer to get it into his or her head, that at any time and out of any where, someone is gonna come jumping out at them; and they’re right. I encourage my actors to interact with the customers. I want them to engage in a conversation with them, but in a creepy way.
At times, The Crypt is a loud and in your face, old fashion type of scare, but to keep up with the industry, you will find a few electronic gadgets scattered amongst the living creatures that walk the dark halls and passages of the old farm house. But I promise to our customers, that we will stay true to our goals and we will pack The Crypt with as many real live actors as necessary to provide you the best value possible.

2015
The beginning of a two year expansion....
In 2015, we started a two year of expansion. In 2015 we built out from the maze behind the house and added; a swamp area, a circus big top, an asylum and several other features that added to the over all experience of The Crypt. The expansion tripled the time our customers spent in our haunted house and has made us a must stop on everyone’s haunted house travels. With live entertainment on our stage (see schedule for events), cast members; like Happy the Clown, wandering through the crowds, and the hiring of a make up artist, we are striving to provide the best haunted house entertainment in the Collin county area. And in the fall of 2015 we purchased another 1.28 acres of land to provide additional parking as well as plans to put in an actual CORN MAZE.
Keep coming back because we just keep getting better each year.
